Qualcomm self owned 64 bit processor

Yesterday, some news said the latest XiaoMi smart phone, Mi5 will adopt the Qualcomm 64 bit octa core processor, Snapdragon 810. It is quite an amazing news. But today, Ontablets said the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 will be available for mass production in the second quarter of 2015, that means the smart phones with it will be available in middle of 2015 at earliest. That means the XiaoMi Mi5 is quite impossible to adopt this Snapdragon 810 processor.

Ontablets also said, as the Snapdragon 810 is quite powerful, so after it is available, in future, there is little space the enhance it further. So it may be not a good news for smart phones suppliers that it is available too early.

But we have to say, Snapdragon 810 adopts the ARM open framework. It integrates four Cortex A53 and four Cortex A57. But the other Qualcomm processor, MSM8996 is based on the ARMv8 and self developed processor. It is quite similar as the Apple A8, and Nvidia Tegra K1.

Something about dual OS tablets

From 2010 till now, Android OS becomes the most popular operation system for smart mobile devices. And there are more and more apps with touching operation available in market. Facing the competition, Microsoft also launched the Windows 8 operation system with Metro touch interface. But both OS are very different. Android has better experience on touching operation, and there are more apps for Android OS. But for Windows 8 OS, it can be compatible with most software for laptop PC.

In fact, about 6 years ago, one tablet pc supplier in China has already launched one unit with Windows CE and Linux OS. And following that, another supplier also launched a unit with Windows 7 and Android OS. But as the software and hardware is not refined, such tablets are not welcome in market.

But everything was changed in 2014 CES trade show. Intel started its dual OS idea. Users can switch between two operation system by one instant button. Followed that, Intel launched the Bay Trail solution for dual OS tablets.

Compared with single OS tablets, the dual OS units can benefit users more. As we have mentioned above, Android OS has more apps and better touch operation, and Windows OS can work with software for laptop PC.

Though the Windows 8 OS has already been added the Metro interface, and there is some apps for Windows OS. But the amount is much less and their update frequency is also lower. But Compared with Android OS, Windows OS has better performance of IE and video playback, and it is also compatible with Coredrawl, Photoshop etc which Android OS can not make it.

But as the Bay Trail processors are not powerful to run big 3D online games in Windows OS, but in Android OS, it can be run easily.

Kodak will launch smart phones android and tablets android in CES 2015

Nokia N1 is better than iPad Mini 3?

We have tested both Nokia N1 and iPad Mini 3 in same condition, and same third party software. The test has covered the performance of CPU and GPU. Regarding the GPU test, Nokia N1 is scored by over 12600, and iPad Mini 3 is about 10300. The CPU test shows the Nokia N1 is scored by over 45000, much higher than iPad Mini 3.

Except the high performance, Nokia N1 is also more slim and lighter than iPad Mini 3. The thickness is 0.6mm less, and weight is 13g lighter than iPad Mini 3.

But we have to notice that two units are running two different operation system, so the test result is not equal, but it can show how powerful Nokia N1 is.

Four new dual OS tablets PC from Onda

Yesterday, we have disclosed the Onda V919 3G Tablet with dual OS, you can click here for detail information about it. Following that, there are three another dual OS tablet PC from Onda. They are Onda V116W, Onda V891W, and Onda V820W.

Onda V116W is the first tablet pc from Onda adopting 11.6 inch big screen size. Screen resolution is 1920*1080 pixels. CPU is the Intel Bay Trail-T Z3736F quad core processor, that is one 64 bit chipset. Frequency is 2.16GHz. Adding on the 2GB DDR3L, it can run the dual OS easily. This V116W can connect with keyboard manually or by bluetooth. Unit owns one 64GB flash memory, and 5M pixels OV camera. Now, its price is unknown.

Onda V891W adopts 8.9 inch IPS screen. Screen ratio is 16:10, resolution is 1920*1200 pixels, and 225PPI. CPU is Intel Bay Trail Z3735F quad core processor, the 7th generation Intel GPU. RAM is 2GB. Its performance is very powerful as well. Flash memory is 64GB eMMC. It can support 4K video playback, users can extend memory by TF cad up to 128GB. Its price is only 125 euros.

Onda V820W owns 8 inch IPS screen. Resolution is 1280*800 pixels. CPU is also Intel quad core processor. RAM is 2GB, flash memory is 32GB. Its price is only 80 euros. Of course, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, HDMI are all available.

All the four tablets have one instant button to switch between Windows 8.1 and Android OS.

Onda V919 3G Air tablet pc with dual OS launched

At the end of Oct, Onda has launched its V919 3G Air octa core tablet pc. Recently, Onda launched the V919 3G Air with dual operation system. Different with the last generation, new V919 3G Air adopts the Intel quad core processor, and runs both Android and Windows 8 operation system.

2 in 1 tablet in 2015

From 2010, when Apple launched the first tablet, iPad, during the past three years, the tablet sales is increasing a lot. But in 2014, the demand starts to reduce. As information from Suverimax, the total sales of tablets in 2014 is about 236 million pieces. The increasing rate is reduced to 7.2% from 52.5% in 2013. Many tablets suppliers in China has been closed in 2014.

Usually, people like to compare tablets with laptop PC. The front one is more portable, the latter one is more powerful. So at the end of 2014, there are many 2 in 1 tablets available which can be tablet and laptop PC as well. But most of the 2 in 1 tablets adopt the Intel Bay Trail processor. Though its performance is not bad, but compared with laptop PC, it is still much less powerful. It can handle some simple office job, but for some special work, like artwork etc, it still not good enough.

In Sept, Intel launched the Core M processor which is based on 14nm process for 2 in 1 tablets. Compared with the Bay Trail processor, its process technology is enhanced, and performance is also much better.

Intel Core M has seven different models. All of them are adopting 14nm process, frequency is 2.9GHz at max. It can support 4MB 3rd level cache. GPU is the HD5300, which is based on Intel 8th generation graphic. Frequency can be 850MHz at max. It can support 3840*2160 pixels resolution at max. The total power consumption is only 4.5W.

Even the cheapest one Core M 5Y10C, its performance is similar as I3. Adding on tablet is more slim than laptop PC, and can work as laptop PC as well, so in 2015, it may replace laptop PC very soon.

Nokia N1 tablet android will land China in Jan

In the middle of last month, Nokia launched its first tablet android, N1. And following that, news said this unit will be land China during the Chinese New Year holiday. And today, Nokia announced that this N1 tablet will be launched on 7th, Jan in China. The price is 185 euros.

This Nokia N1 is very slim, thickness is only 6.9mm. Total weight is only 318g. It adopts one 7.9 inch IPS screen, resolution is 2048*1536 pixels. CPU is the Intel Z3580 processor which is one 64 bit processor. Frequency is 2.3GHz. GPU is PowerVR G6430. RAM is 2GB, and flash memory is 32GB. Unit owns one 5M pixels front camera, and 8M pixels rear camera. Battery capacity is 5300Mah. The operation system is latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

Smart devices need more powerful GPU

From single core to octa core, from 32 bit to 64 bit, now the CPU becomes more and more powerful. In meanwhile, the Apps,UI and screen resolution is much better than beginning, that means your smart phones or tablets need one more powerful GPU. In fact, nowadays, GPU will depend the performance of your devices.

Recently, Ontablets listed out the top GPU, and the Mali-T764 which is adopted by RK3288 is ranked 3rd spot. The top two are Nvidia Tegra and Adreno 420.

We tested on tablet with RK3288 quad core processor by Ice Storm. The result is Max Out. Then we tested it by Ice Storm Extreme, it is scored by over 10000, that is the top GPU. That is because Mali T764 has very good performance on 3D handling. It adopts the advanced ATSC and other technologies, and can decode 4K video and H.265 format.

In fact, when we buy smart phones or tablets, we only care about the performance of CPU, like how many cores it contains, what is the frequency etc, but few of us will care about the GPU. In fact, even your smart phone comes with octa core CPU, it does not mean it will have a good performance, it needs a good GPU as well.

Marvell 64 bit quad core and octa core processor launched

For PC, 64 bit processor is not a new stuff. But when Apple launched the iPhone5S, people found that smart phone processors can be as fast as PC. In 2014, more and more smart phones suppliers started to develop their products with 64 bit processor. And yesterday, Marvell launched its latest 64 bit quad core and octa core processor with LTE network.

The processor launched are PXA1908 and PXA1936. Both units are for smart phones. PXA1936 is for high end smart phone market. It is one octa core processor with 8 Cortex A53 cores, and it is 64 bit chipset. The max frequency is 1.5GHz. It can support decoding and encoding 1080P video, and 13M-16M pixels camera. It adopts the advanced power management system, and enhances the power efficiency. It integrates positioning and SensorHub function.

The PXA1908 is one processor for middle end smart phones. It adopts ARM Cortex A53 framework, and 64 bit quad core chipset. Frequency is 12GHz. It can only support 720P videos and 13M pixels camera, and integrates the positioning and SensorHub function.

Both chipset can support FDD-LTE, TD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and GSM network. And they can work with the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. As estimation, they will be available for sale in early of 2015.

In meanwhile, Marvell also launched two Pro editions. The CPU performance is enhanced further. The Pro PXA1936 is enhanced to 1.8GHz, and Pro PXA1908 is 1.5GHz.

Android Wear OS is upgraded to 5.0 edition

Now, Android 5.0 Lollipop is pushed to different Android devices. Recently, Google launched the Lollipop edition Android Wear OS. This upgrade is to improve the customization of the OS. There are various dial plates for choice.

Users can go to Google Play to download and install the dial plates just like installing apps. And Google has opened the API of the Android Wear OS, developers can design its own dial plates.

Forth is the auto focus technology. Qualcomm made a cooperation with Corephotonics. And add the LTD dual camera solution into Snapdragon 810 processor. Though this LTD technology, users can add pictures taken by two cameras together.

Fifth is enhanced noise clearance technology. Snapdragon 810 owns the high performance and low power consumption noise clearance technology. Though this technology, one microphone can capture audio signal, and one will erase the noise, it will make the callings more clear.

Sixth is the enhanced wifi connection function. Snapdragon can support VIVE 11ac and 1ad technologies, high speed and low delay wifi connection. It can transfer files in 4Gbits/s speed at max. Users can share big files very quickly.

Breaking news from Teclast

Recently, Telcast has updated its official website. On its website, it shows there is one new product available on 15th, Dec, 2014. But Teclast did not tell what is the new tablet.

Though, Teclast did not tell anything about it. But we can make some guess. First is Teclast tablets will be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. Till today, Google has launched its latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS several days before. And Samsung, Nexus, and Nvidia tablets can be upgraded to Android 5.0 now. But till now, no tablets suppliers from China upgrade their products to Android 5.0 OS. So it is most likely that this new Teclast tablet is one unit with Android 5.0 OS. Second, this new product is one tablet with Intel Core M processor. Lenovo has already launched one tablet with latest Core M processor, and has already been available for sale in Spain and other countries. As one top tablet supplier in China, Teclast should launch its tablets with Intel Core M very soon, adding on Teclast has a very good cooperation relationship with Intel, it is quite possible.

Now, everything is not settled, we have to wait several days and see what is the new tablet from Teclast.

24 inch big tablet from Toshiba

Recently, news from Suverimax, Toshiba will launch a 24 inch big screen size tablet. It is one commercial tablet, but its configuration is not very good, and runs Android operation system.

The model number of this big size tablet is TT301. Its total weight is 1.8KG. As its size is big, and also heavy, obviously, it is not used for outdoors. Its screen size is 24 inch, and resolution is 1080P. It comes with one dual core processor, frequency is 1GHz, but till now, we don't know what is the model of the CPU. RAM is 1.5GB, flash memory is 16GB. It support HDMI input, Miracast function. There is one IR remote control in packing. This unit runs the Android 4.2.1 operation system. Nowadays, most big screen tablets run the Windows OS.

Till now, Toshiba did not tell when this TT301 will be launched and what is the price. But it will be firstly landed in Japan.

iPad Mini 3 VS Sony Z3 Compact

This year, the sales of tablet is reduced a lot, but iPad still the first choice for most buyers, especial in high end market. In meanwhile, many tablet Android suppliers are also working to surpass iPad. For mini tablets, iPad Mini 3 and Sony Z3 Compact are the top two models in market. Today, let's have a contrast between the two units.

First, let's see the screen. iPad Mini 3 adopts one 7.9 inch IPS Retina screen, resolution is 2048*1536 pixels. Screen ratio is 4:3. The screen color, brightness, and viewing angle are all very good. Sony Z3 Compact adopts one 1080P screen. Screen ratio is 16:10. When playing videos, the quality is very good. As the screen radio is 16:10, when operation on UI or read e-books, it is not so comfortable as 4:3 screen. That is why Apple always adopts 4:3 screen for iPad.

Forth, battery life. The battery capacity of iPad Mini 3 is 6470Mah, and Sony Z3 Compact is 4500Mah. We made a test, the result shows iPad Mini 3 has a longer battery life than Sony Z3.

Fifth, price. Both units have similar price. But Sony Z3 Compact is a bit cheaper.

From the above information, we can see, both units are very good tablets. You can choose according to your own demand. If you use to read e-books or browse webpages, then iPad Mini 3 is better, if you use to watch videos, then Sony Z3 is one better.

Samsung is developing its own GPU

As we know, many Samsung tablets or smart phones are adopting its own Exynos processors. But all the processors are adopting the ARM Mali or Imagination PowerVR GPU. Early of this year, Suverimax has already disclosed the news that Samsung was developing its own GPU. And recent, news from Korea confirmed it, and said now, the everything is going well, the Samsung GPU may be available in the middle of 2015.

If the news is true, then the Samsung GPU may be adopted in the new Galaxy Note 5 or other high end mobile devices. But what is sure that Samsung has already invested a lot to develop the GPU. Now, Samsung is sued by Nvidia for infringement of GPU.

Except that Samsung is also trying to develop its 64 bit CPU, but till now, the schedule is unknown.

Bluetooth 4.2 comes

Recently, Bluetooth Special Interest Group announced the latest bluetooth 4.2 standard. Compared with the bluetooth 4.1 which was launched one year ago, new bluetooth will support IPv6 protocol. Users can connect with network through bluetooth directly. Except that, new bluetooth has improved the privacy protection and speed.

Blocking smartphone, Puzzlephone disclosed

Google has disclosed its blocking smart phone projection. In fact, except Google, other companies are also working on blocking smart phone. Recently, one company from Finland named Circular Devices announced that it will launch one blocking smart phone, Puzzlephone.

Now, on internet, there is some artwork of this Puzzlephone. This Puzzlephone has three major parts, Spine, heart and brain.

Puzzlephone adopts the Android operation system. If the unit is broken or need to be upgraded, users just need to replace just several parts. For example, you can keep the screen for over 10 years, but just need to replace the CPU part.

New tablet Windows, Onda V820W

Till now, Onda has already launched two mini tablets with Windows8 operation system. They are V819W and V891W, the front one is coming with 8 inch IPS screen, and latter is 8.9 inch. But the performance is not so good. Now, in market, there are a lot of tablets better than V819W. Recently, Onda launched a new 8 inch tablet with better performance, model number is Onda V820W.

This unit owns one 8 inch IPS screen, resolution is 1280*800 pixels. CPU is Intel 64 bit Atom Z3735F quad core processor, RAM is 2GB. There are dual camera built in. It runs legit Windows 8.1 OS.

Its price is unknown for now. But considering other similar tablets with 8 inch screen and Windows 8 OS, its price should be less than 100 US dollars.

Till today, Onda did not tell when this unit will be available for sale.

Ematic launched three new tablets Windows

Recently, Ontablets disclosed three new tablets with Windows OS from Ematic. The tablets have already been for sale on Amazon, but it can not accept any order now. But from the description, the screens size is 7,8 and 10 inches. Prices are 100, 130 and 180 US dollars.

Ematic EWT716 is one 7 inch tablet. Screen resolution is 1024*600 pixels. It adopts the Intel Atom quad core processor. RAM is 1GB and 16GB flash memory. Its front camera is 0.3M pixels, and rear camera is 2M pixels. It can support Wifi, GPS, bluetooth, USB2.0 and TF card etc.

The EWT816 owns one 8 inch IPS screen, screen resolution is 1280*800 pixels. The other features are similar as EWT716.

The Ematci EWT106 is 10 inch tablet. Screen resolution is 1280*800 pixels as well. There is one keyboard with the unit. Its flash memory is also 16GB. But the rear camera is enhanced to 5M pixels.

AMD will stop developing chipset for tablets

Recently, Kevin Lensing said, now the tablet market is involved into a price war. The chip suppliers has little profit now. So it will not be the market counting first for AMD.

As we know, the demand for tablets is reduced dramatically in past months. More important, iPad, Samsung and other cheap China tablet suppliers have taken the market. Their products can not reflect the advantage of AMD on graphic processing.

Lensing said, AMD will focus one some increasing business, like PC. In 2014, the PC market is recovered a bit. Last week, AMD has already PC processor named Carrizo. Its power consumption is less than 10W.

AMD did not succeeded in tablet business. From 2011 when AMD started to enter tablet market, AMD launched new chipset every year. But all of them are not welcome.

From next year, AMD will not launch new chipset for tablet. But the AMD Mullins will still be available. Though this chipset is adopted by HP, Microstar and other suppliers, but it is regarded a failure.

Though, AMD will not launch new chipset for tablets, but it will not quit this business. If any good chance, it will catch it.

As we know, Intel has invested a lot of money for tablets. Though, it is partially successful, but it lost a of money. Intel adopts the X86 framework for its processor. But most tablets in market adopt the ARM framework. AMD has both frameworks. If it wants, AMD can go back to tablets very quickly.

3 in 1 tablet, Dragonfly Futurefon is launched

You can buy a 2 in 1 tablet easily in market or online. Usually they can switch between tablet and laptop PC, or tablet and smart phone. For example, the ASUS Padfone, it can work as a smart phone and tablet. The other example is the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga. They can be a tablet or laptop PC. But we have never seen a 3 in 1 unit. Today, Idealfuture launched a 3 in 1 device, namded Dragonfly Futurefon. It has integrated smart phone, tablet, and laptop pc together.

This unit owns two 7 inch IPS screen and a full QWERTY keyboard. When working as smart phone, it is just like other mobile phones, but it can run both Android and Windows OS. When working as a tablet, users can combine the two 7 inch screens together, and soon it becomes one big screen tablet. Of course, if connected with the keyboard, then it is a laptop PC.

This Dragonfly Futurefon owns two 7 inch AMOLED panels, resolutions are 2560*1440 pixels. When combined together, it will be a 12 inch panel, and resolution is 5120*1440 pixels. Its CPU is the 64 bit Intel processor. There are 4GB RAM and 128GB flash memory. There are two LTE chips inside. Its battery capacity is 3200Mah.

The Dragonfly Futurefon will be available for sale in first half of 2015, its price will be about 300 US dollars.

16nm processor will be cheaper?

Now, TSMC has the trial production for its new 16nm FinFET process technology. As estimation, it will be available for mass production in middle of 2015. And it will compete with the Samsung 14nm processor.

Except the regular improvement, TSMC has also made some improvement on its packing process. As estimation, in 2016, it can realize InFO for 16nm process technology. InFO mean Integrated Fan-out.

This technology is developed by TSMC itself. It can reduce the cost for clients. It is the cheaper edition of the existing CoWOS. But the next generation of iPhone or iPad will not adopt this new technology.

Recently, TSMC has already acquired one manufacture based in Taiwan which was owned by Qualcomm to expand its business and production capacity.

Acer launched three new tablets

Early today, Acer launched three new tablets in Taiwan, they are Acer Iconia Talk S, Iconia One 7 and Iconia 8. The Acer Incoia Talk S is the first phablet from Acer supporting 4G network.

The Acer Iconia Talk S adopts one 7 inch IPS screen, resolution is 1280*720 pixels. CPU is Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 processor. Unit owns 1GB RAM and 16GB flash memory. It supports a memory card to extend memory space. There are dual cameras, front camera is 2M pixels, and rear camera is 5M pixels. Battery capacity is 3780Mah. Battery life is over 7 hours. The operation system is Android 4.4. Unit can support Cat 4 LTE network, and there are dual SIM card slot. Users can load two SIM cards into the unit.

The Iconia One 7 and One 8 are quite similar. Except the screen size and battery capacity are different, the others are the same. Iconia One 7 adopts 7 inch IPS screen, battery capacity is 3520Mah. Iconia One 8 adopts 8 inch IPS screen, battery capacity is 4600Mah.

The screen resolution is 1280*800 pixels. CPU is Intel Atom Z3735G quad core processor. RAM is 1GB, and flash memory is 16GB. The front camera is 0.3M pixels, and rear camera is 5M pixels.

The price of Inconia Talk S is about 200 euros, Iconia One 7 is about 100 euros, and One 8 is about 140 euros.

Till now, we can not make sure, when they will land on Spain.

Corning launched the 4th generation Gorilla glass

As we know, iPhone and many other top smart phones from well known suppliers are adopting the Corning Gorilla glass. Now, Corning launched its 4th generation Gorilla glass. Compared with old generation, new Gorilla glass can bear rougher falls.

As the screen size of a smart phone is bigger than before, the screen is easier to be broken than before. This Corning Gorilla can reduce the damages on screen when your smart phone falls.

Corning said, by investigation, 80% smart phones have the damaged point before they are broken. These damaged points can not be seen by eyes. But as to those damaged points, the screen may be broken when contacted with sharp stuff or falls.

Compared with other glass, Corning 4th generation Gorilla glass is about two times tougher. And compared with the last generation, the 4th Gorilla glass is more anti scratch.

Regarding the sapphire glass, it has a very good performance on anti scratch, but it is as tough as Gorilla glass.

Reviews on Nokia N1 tablet

Yesterday, Nokia launched its first tablet, N1. Nokia has already sold out its mobile phone dept out, now it entered the new business. Some people say it is a new start for Nokia.

The Nokia N1 looks quite similar as iPad Mini, and its operation system is Android 5.0 Lollipop. Everything tells me Nokia is changing. So how is the Nokia N1 working? Today, Ontablets got the sample of N1, it can be a good replacement of iPad Mini.

The size of Nokia N1 is the sample as iPad Mini, screen size is 7.9 inch. The earphone jack, volume button, and cameras are put at the same position as iPad Mini. But the difference is N1 is only 6.9mm, and 318G. It is more slim and lighter than iPad Mini.

Both units owns the same size screen, and resolution is 2048*1536 pixels. But on the surface of N1, there is anti glare coating, so when under strong light, the screen is not good as iPad Mini.

The rear camera of N1 is 8M pixels, but iPad Mini is only 5M pixels. More important, N1 owns one 5M pixels front camera. The processor of N1 is Intel Atom quad core, frequency is 2.4GHz, RAM is 2GB and flash memory is 32GB. Its performance will not lose iPad Mini.

The operation system of N1 is Z Launcher which is customized and based on Android 5.0 L. The OS will list the most frequently used apps on the desktop. If you have too many apps, then you just write the first character of the app name, then the OS will show you all the apps.

Nokia N1 will be available for sale in next Feb, and price is only 250 US dollars, lower than iPad Mini3. It will be a strong competitor of iPad Mini 3.

Screen of Apple Watch

As Apple has released the WatchKit SDK to developers, more and more information about Apple Watch is available now. When Apple launched the smart watch, there is not information about the screen. Now, there is some news about the display.

Apple Watch has two different models. Their sizes are also different, one is 38mm, and the other one is 42mm. The screen resolution of 38mm is 272*340 pixels, the other one is 312*390 pixels. Screen ratio is 5:4.

The screen resolution of another popular smart wath, Moto 360, is 320*290 pixels. So the Apple Watch screen resolution is similar as Moto 360. But Moto 360 is round panel, and Apple Watch is square panel.

Apple tells the screen of Apple Watch is Retina, but obviously, its resolution can not reach Retina level. But Apple has already informed developers to prepare two different size image resources. One is for 38mm unit, and one is for 42mm. But more interesting is Apple also tells developers should prepare images of 2X resolution. Maybe that means, Apple will double the screen resolution for smart watch.

Action will launch 64 bits processor

In 30th, June, 2014, Action was authorized by ARM for its new 64 bits processor, Cortex A50 series. And it is the first chipset supplier which is been authorized for the 64 bits Cortex A50 series. The first Action processor which is based on ARM Cortex A50 series will be launched at the end of this year.

But one other thing is quite interesting. In 26th, June, 2014, Google released its latest Android Lollipop operation system. It is the biggest update for Android OS in the past years. More important, new Android Lollipop OS will support 64 bits processor. It matches with Cortex A50 series processor well.

As we know, ARM has already used ARMv7 framework for over 10 years. And Cortex A50 series will be the first batch processor which adopts the new ARMv8 framework.

Let's speak something about Cortex A10 series. Now, in market, there are two models, one is Cortex A15, and the other is Cortex A17. Cortex A15 is the most powerful processor based on ARMv7 framework, and Cortex A15 has a very good performance on power consumption. It is the upgrading edition of Cortex A7.

10 years later, ARM launched its first 64 bit processor, it will replace the old ARMv7 framework. Action becomes with the first authorized processor supplier, it has a good advantage now.

Cube Talk98 with MTK8135

After Cube launched the T7 tablet which comes with 7 inch IPS screen, MTK8752 octa core processor, and dual 4G network, Cube launched another phablet, Cube Talk98. It is one 9.7 inch 3G tablet. It adopts the MTK8135 quad core processor from Mediatech. Now, it is already available for sale, price is 165 euros on ontablets.es

Cube Talk98 owns one 9.7 inch IPS screen, and comes with MTK8135 quad core processor. It contains dual Cortex A7 and dual Cortex A15. GPU is Imagination PowerVR G6200. So its power consumption is quite low. Its RAM is 2GB, and flash memory is 32GB. It has dual cameras built in. Front camera is 5M pixels, and rear camera is 13M pixels. It can support 3G network, bluetooth, GPS, and FM tuner function. 

New 16nm Fin FET+ technology

Yesterday, TSMC announced that it has already started trial production for new 16nm FinFET Plus process technology. 16nm FinFET Plus is the enhanced edition of 16nm FinFET. It can enhance the performance by 40% and power consumption is reduced by 50% compared with 20nm FinFET process.

This new 16nm FinFET Plus process has already been passed on 64 bit ARM framework. The frequency of Cortex A57 can be 2.3GHz, and Cortex A53 power consumption can be 75mW. And the conformity rate is also good.

As estimation, it will finish all reliability compliance in Nov. According the current condition, new process technology can be adopted in next July.

Now, many TSMC's clinets, like LG, Avago, MTK, Nvidia etc are quite interested in this new process. And they have already started to prepare new products based on this new technology.

Maybe in next year, we will see some tablets or smart phones based on this 16nm FinFET Plus process technology.

New tablet Windows 8, Erisson R18

In this April, Erisson has already shown this R18 tablet Windows in the HK trade show. This unit is based on Intel Bay Trail-T quad core processor. But after the show, this R18 is not available in the market. Yesterday, this unit finally appeared on ontablets.es. The price is only 125 euros.

This Erisson R18 adopts the metal body, total weight is only 570G. The thickness is 8.5mm. Its screen size is 10.1 inch, IPS. Resolution is 1280*800, and adopts the OGS technology. CPU is the Intel Bay Trail-T Z3735F quad core processor. This chipset is adopting 22nm process technology, frequency is 1.8GHz. Power consumption is quite low. RAM is 2GB, flash memory is 32GB. The operation system is Windows 8.1 OS. Both cameras are 2M pixels.

There are HDMI, Micro USB and Micro SD hosts on the body of the unit. Except the screen resolution, this unit is still very good.

Specification of Allwinner A83T octa core processor

In this Sept, Allwinner launched its octa core processor, A83T for tablets. Today, let's see its detail information.

Allwinner A83T adopts the 28nm HPC process technology. It contains eight ARM Cortex A7 chips. The max frequency is 2.0GHz. All the 8 chips can run in same time. The GPU is PowerVR SGX544 which is also adopted in Allwinner A31 and A31S. Its max frequency is 700MHz. Performance is excellent. Regarding RAM, the DDR working frequency is about 800MHz. It can support the 1920*1200 pixels screen well.

Allwinner A83T can support video recording in 1080P@60fps manner, and support H.265 of 1080P@30fps. This processor can support 8M pixel cameras. It adopts the Magnificent Display Technology to improve the video quality.

Except that, Allwinner support digital patent protection including Widevine Level 1 for Miracast HDCP 2.X etc.

Processor adopts the 28nm process technology, and based on ARM Cortex A7. Its power consumption is also very low, even better than most quad core processor in market.

Yesterday, ARM launched its new generation GPU. It has included the Mali-T820, Mali-T830 and Mali-T860. All of them can support OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0/3.1, OpenCL 1.1/1.2, DirectX 11, RenderScript Compute and other popular API.

Among the three GPU, Mali-T860 is the top one. Its running speed is about 45% faster than Mali-T628. It owns 16 shader cores and each core contains two ALU cores. It can support the DirectX 11.1. Mali-T830 is for middle end market. It owns 4 shader cores. And each core contains two ALU cores. It can support DirectX 11 FL 9_3. Mali-T820 is one low end product. It also owns 4 shader cores, but each core only contain one ALU core. It also can support DirectX 11 FL9_3. But it can not support DirectX 11.1.

China smart phones suppliers are not willing to pay patent to Qualcomm

China is the biggest market for Qualcomm. Many smart phone suppliers in China adopt processor from Qualcomm. And accordingly, Qualcomm has made a lot in China. But now, it also faces some risk in China. That is because that China smart phone suppliers are not willing to pay patent to Qualcomm.

Now, in China, the demand for smart phone is still increasing. Qualcomm is also profited in this market. But from the Qualcomm financial report of last quarter, now, it has some big problem in China.

Now, many smart phone suppliers rely on Qualcomm chipset. But Qualcomm also make profit from the suppliers. As the agreement, Qualcomm can make 8 US dollars for one smart phone in 200 US dollars.

In last quarter, many suppliers refused to pay for the patent, or some pay less. Of course, some big smart phone suppliers, like Huawei, MI, CoolPad, NEC is keeping their promise to pay the patent. That is quite a good news to Qualcomm.

But now, Qualcomm is involved into a autitrust Probe in China. It will last another 12 months more in future.

China market has already taken 20% of total income of Qualcomm, and Qualcomm is also expecting to increase their business by China market.

Nvidia Shield tablet with Android 5.0 OS

In this Oct, Google launched the Android 5.0 Lollipop operation system. We have got the news that the Nvidia Shield tablet will come with this Android 5.0 OS. But we did not know when it will be available.

Today, Ontablets has received the letters from Nvidia Shield team. The letter told, new Nvidia Shield tablet will come with Android 5.0 OS. In the letter, it contains one black silicon case for the Shield tablet.

Now new Nvidia Shield team is working on it, but Nvidia did not tell when it will be available for sale. We will keep you informed if any further news.

Panasonic launched a tablet pc for outdoors

Last week, Panasonic launched a new tablet pc, Toughpad FZ-B2. This tablet is water proof, anti shock and dust off. We can say this tablet is special for out doors.

In this May, Panasonic has already launched two 5 inch tablets, they are quite similar as this FZ-B2, water proof etc. But this FZ-B2 owns one 7 inch IPS screen, resolution is 1280*800 pixels. Total weight is 540G, and unit is 18mm thickness. More important, there is anti reflection coating on the surface of the screen. This feature is quite important when we use the tablet outdoors.


This TouchPad FZ-B2 adopts one Intel Celeron N2930 quad core processor. The frequency is 1.83Ghz. It can be enhanced to 2.16Ghz by the Intel Turbo Boost technology. There are dual cameras available. The front one is 2M pixels, and rear one is 5M pixels. It has 2GB RAM and 32GB flash memory.


Though, we don't know the battery capacity for now. But as our news, once you recharge the battery 2.5 hours, then it can last working for over 7 hours. More important, the battery can be replaced by users.

This FZ-B2 will be for sale in UK first in Dec. The price is about 590 pounds. In US, it will be available for sale in next Feb, and price is 1300 US dollars.

Except the powerful performance, this tablet owns a lot of accessories, which is quite useful when outdoors.

First tablet pc with AMD processor

Now, in market, there are a lot of different processors for tablets, but non is from AMD. Recently, one tablet supplier from Taiwan, named BungBungame, launched a new tablet with AMD processor. This is the first tablet pc wit AMD processor. The model number is Photon 2.

This tablet owns one 10.1 inch screen. Screen resolution is 1920*1200 pixels. The RAM is 4GB, and flash memory is 64GB. The accessories have included one bluetooth keyboard and s-pen. It can support wifi, bluetooth 4.0 and NFC function. On the unit body, there is one micro HDMI and microSD card slot. The size of the unit is 10.4*7.2*0.4 inch. Totaly weight is 590G. There is one front camera, but resolution is unknown for now. 

Till now, no further information about this tablet is known, but as news from Ontablets, this unit will be about 550 US dollars. Though, the price is not cheap, but as the configuration is very high, the performance is very high as well. In our idea, it worth the price. 

Good sales, Surface Pro 3

Last week, we have talked about that Microsoft had some promotion for its new Surface Pro 3. The result is very good, and even better than our expectation.

News from Microsoft said, the promotion result is very good, the sales of Surface Pro 3 in this quarter is better than expectation. Now, Surface Pro 3 has already landed in 28 countries.

The sales of Surface Pro 3 is twice of Surface Pro 2, especially, some students, enterprise, are very interested in it. People buy Surface Pro 3 to replace the tablet pc or their laptop PC.

From the datasheet, the total sales of Surface is over 0.9 billion US dollar, and soon, it will reach 1 billion US dollars. If the situation keeps on, maybe next month, it will be 1 billion.

Windows 10 will support 1024*600 resolution

Usually operation system has the requirement on the screen resolution when updated. For top consumers, they want the OS supporting 4K or high resolution, and but for lower end market, users would like it supporting lower resolution.

Recently, Windows has launched the Windows 10 preview edition, this new operation system can support a very low resolution display. One news from the blog of Ontablets confirmed that new Windows 10, version number 960 can run in a 1024*600 pixels display. They tried this new OS on the Samsung N150. Its screen resolution is 1024*600. When Windows 8 OS was launched, it can only run in 1024*768 pixels at lowest.

But Microsoft warned that if running in low resolution display, Windows 10 OS may have bugs.

It seems that when Windows 10 runs in low resolution display, it does not have too much limitation. As we know Samsung N150 is quite an old model, it adopts the Intel Atom N450 processor, and owns 2GB DDR2 RAM, when running on this N150, there is no problem happened.

New Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook

In August, Samsung has already associated with B&N to launch one Galaxy Tab 4 Nook tablet. The price is 170 US dollars. That is one 7 inch tablet. But recently, Samsung has launched one 10.1 inch Galaxy Tab 4 Nook.

This new tablet pc owns one 10.1 inch e-ink display. Resolution is 1280*800 pixels. It comes with one Marvell quad core processor. Frequency is 1.2GHz. There is one 1.5GB RAM and 16GB flash memory. There is one microSD slot to extend the memory space.

The size of this unit is 9.6*6.9*0.3 inch. It can support GPS navigation. There are dual cameras built in. Front one is 1.3M pixels, and rear one is 3M pixels. It total weight is only 1.1 pounds. The battery life is over 10 hours.

In fact, this new unit is quite similar as old Galaxy Tab 4 Nook, the RAM and screen resolution is the same. But screen size is bigger, and flash memory space is doubled.

The price of new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook is 300 US dollars, and it will be available for sale in all Barns&Nobles stores in US. But Samsung did not tell when it will be available for sale.

Several months ago, Google launched the Android L Preview edition, and displayed many new features and changes in the new OS. Recently, in the I/O conference, Google officially launched the Android 5.0 Lollipop operation system. Today, the SDK of Android 5.0 is also downloadable.

Five new tablets from Onda launched

Yesterday, the well known tablet pc supplier, Onda has launched five new tablets in China. All of them are based on Intel quad core processor and come with Windows OS.

All the five tablets adopt the 64 bits Intel quad core processor, and pre installed Windows 8.1 OS.

Except the Onda V975W, the other four are completely new products. New Onda V975W adopts the Intel Z3735F processor. The old V975 adopts the Intel Z3735D.

The first new product is the Onda V891W. It adopts one 8.9 inch IPS screen, resolution is 1920*1200 pixels. PPI is 255. It owns the Intel Z3735F quad core processor, RAM is 2GB DDR3L. Running speed is very fast. Except the high performance, this V891W is also quite cheap, the price is only 100 euros.

The other one is V961W. That is the first Onda tablets Windows which can support 3G network. Unit comes with one 9.6 inch IPS screen. It can support the WCDMA 3G network, users can surf internet easily. RAM is 2GB, and flash memory is 32GB. The rear camera is 5M pixels. Its price is also only 140 euros.

The third one is V101W. Compared with the old V101W, new V101 is more slim and lighter. There is USB host on the body, it can connect with a keyboard, mouse or hard disc. Flash memory is 32GB. Though, unit is enhanced, but price is reduced, only 125 euros.

The forth one is Onda V102W. Its features are nearly the same as V101W, but screen resolution is enhanced to 1920*1200 pixels.

Fifth one is Onda V975W. The CPU is the Intel Z3735F quad core, the battery life is longer than old V975W.

Mini PC from MeeGoPad

Last month, Ontablets has already disclosed the news that Meegopad, one well known tablet supplier in China will launch one mini PC based on Intel Bay Trail-T solution. The size of this unit is quite small, only 100*38*9.6mm. The total weight is less than 50g. Unit can run the Windows 8.1 operation system. Once connected with TV set through HDMI, it can work as a desktop PC.

Users can watch online videos on your TV set through this mini PC. Of course, it can also run office software, browse webpages, or play online games as well.


As this unit adopts the latest Intel Bay Trail-T CR solution, it can support both Android and Windows operation system.


Its CPU is the Intel Z3735G quad core processor, frequency is 1.33GHz. RAM is 1GB, and 16GB flash memory. It may have another edition with Z3735F quad core processor, 2GB RAM and 32GB flash memory. It can support bluetooth4.0 and wifi.


Regarding the price of this unit, it should be less than 70 euros. But we need to know, Windows 8.1 OS is only free for tablets less than 9 inch. This unit is not a tablet, so if it is preintalled legit Windows OS, then it will be charge 15 US dollars.


As it is quite cheap, and size is very mini, so once it is available for sale, it should be quite welcome here. Till now, Meegopad did not confirm the above news.

Nvidia Shield tablet can be upgraded to Android 5

Last night, Google has launched the latest Android 5.0 operation system, and soon Nvidia announced that its Shield tablet can be upgraded to android 5.0 OS. I think that it is benefited from the cooperation between Nexus and Nvidia.

As we know, Nexus 9 and Nvidia Shield tablet are both adopting the Nvidia Tegra K1 quad core processor. Now, they are also adopting the same operation system. As we know, Shield tablet is one special tablet for game, and in this Sept, it has already been available for sale. Compared with Nexus 9, it does not have much advantage. Though, they are using the same processor and operation system, their price is much different. Nvidia Shield tablet is only 399 US dollars, and Nexus 9 is starting from 399 euros.


Anyhow, as this Nvidia Shield tablet can be upgraded to Android 5.0, it must have more good experience for users. Let's expect it.
